Thomas and I bought a house when we were first married. We lucked out and got a really good deal on a brand new home, because the price went up on similar houses the day after we put our bid in. When we bought the house it had only been framed so we got to pick out everything that went inside, including the carpet, the cabinets, counters, colors...you get the picture. We put a lot into the house on the outside also, made the curb appeal good, put in a nice fence, and put a pool in the backyard. The pool was probably one of the best investments for not only us, but the family also.
It was a good house at the end of a road and we really liked the house, until we started having kids. Quickly the house got smaller and smaller and again we came across another great thing. This time it was a great opportunity. Friends of ours built their own house and were talking about starting up in the contracting business and of course I said I would be interested. So, this began the phase of our second house.
We probably began talking about this in the early months of 2008, along the way obstacles arose and have been overcome. We sold our first house in May of 2008, moved into my parents house in late July of 2008 and officially began building our own house in December of 2008. Weather issues arose at this point causing trucks and diggers to get stuck until January of 2009. Now we are in April of 2009 and we have a great beginning of a wonderful house that we will enjoy for the rest of our lives!
The frame is up, the brick is done, and the plumbing and electrical are both roughed in. My parents have been kind enough to let us live with them all this time and I know that we all ready for the house to be done. We are greatly excited and ready for the house to be complete, but it will get done in time, right now we just hope to make the right choices and end up with a beautiful new home!
