San Antonio Zoo-Sunday

On Sunday (Fathers Day), we decided to go to the San Antonio zoo. At one time I had looked up this zoo and it was listed as one of the best, so I was expecting something good! I got discounted admission also, because we are members of the zoo in Nashville...which was a bonus!

Around the zoo, they have many statues of animals along with the real ones and the lions greeted us as we entered!
This bear wandered out in the open while we were visiting it, sat down for its picture to be taken. It had a sign posted at its area about how it was really old and he is allowed access to the "off" areas when its really hot, but I guess he wanted to be seen!

Tapanga wanted to take a ride on the Komodo Dragon, but then all the kids decided they wanted to!
There were lots of various monkeys to see and visit. The zoo was HUGE with lots of species of animals!
After visiting the reptile house, Grandpa bought all the kids a snake!!!
Before getting into the Africa area, we got to visit the hippos. Which was really neat, because I had never seen a hippo so up close! Each kid got to take a picture with the hippo. When Tapanga took her picture it was really funny, she smiled really pretty, then turned around saw the hippo right there and screamed!
Tyler is not so sure about the separation between himself and the hippo!
While walking through the Africa exhibit, there was a fake mud hut where kids and adults could see the insects that live underground. In this exhibit a nest of birds had made a home. These baby birds will hopefully make it, many people were very close to the nest!
It was very hot out, we were all sweaty and tired, but we got really good views of all the animals!
One of the things we don't typically do at the Nashville zoo is feed the birds, but I payed for all the kids to get to feed the birds here. They surprised the kids a couple times, causing some of the food to spill, but each got to experience what it was like to feed them...and Tanner got peed/pooped on!
Of course, we couldn't leave till we visited the animals in the petting zoo!
Tyler made himself at home/comfortable with this goat who seemed content with Tyler petting him.
One of the things that makes this zoo really nice is that it has a water play area for the kids. Even though we brought swimsuits we were so hot and sweaty we just let the kids play in their street clothes!
The play area had a really thick, rock like type of sand that stuck to everything that was wet!
Tapanga had to go clean off in the water.
One of the other really nice things about this zoo, was the train ride that took you around the park that was outside of the zoo. Tyler and Maleah got to ride together and Tanner and Tapanga rode together with Thomas and I. The other adults took seats at the rear of the train!

This zoo was really nice! It was clean, well kept and had many animals and exhibits to see and experience. We had a good time even if it was HOT!
