Texas Trip-Driving Days

Mom emailed me Tuesday morning saying she was ready to get out of dodge and was wondering if we could leave Thursday afternoon instead of Friday morning. I had to do a little schedule rearranging, but that's what we did...started our Texas trip 1/2 day early! Woohoo we are on vacation!

The plan was to drive through Memphis on Thursday. Then on Friday get to San Marcos, Texas about 45 minutes outside San Antonio...here we would meet up with Kitty and Ken on Saturday then travel to San Antonio together.

Mom had also planned that the boys would ride with them, while Tapanga would ride with us in the van. I am not sure who would have the better deal with this one...but it worked out. Surprisingly, the kids did much better than expected!

Tapanga had the headphones on to listen to her movies...they are so big on her! I had first driving shift, which means I drove through the rain out of Clarksville and Dickson! Once we got out of Dickson, we didn't see another drop of rain.
Our goal...to follow this little red car to Texas...this was our view!
Thursdays drive worked out well, we left at about 4:30, drove through Dickson and caught I-40 at that point. Outside of Dickson somewhere we stopped for dinner...good ole Micky D's and then back on the road. One potty stop, then our night stop in Forrestt City, Arkansas.

Friday started off early, we were on the road about a quarter to 8, but not an hour later had to make our first potty stop. Then half hour after that...another potty stop! 30 miles outside of San Marcos, we hit the only real traffic of the day, standstill! It was 7 at night, why the standing traffic...accident! We finally made it though!
Why did we stop in San Marcos? Because I got these in the mail about a week ago...free money, but since our stores in Nashville are closed I had to find others to go to!
The kids are excited about being in Texas and getting to see Maleah!
Along the way we noted some funny things:

In Tennessee, the speed limit is 70 for everyone, all the time. In Arkansas, speed limit is 70 for cars, but 65 for trucks. In Texas, the speed limit is 70 during the day, 65 at night...with their signs being black and white!
Somewhere in Texas I saw "Smart Buck Taxidermy"...if it was really a smart buck would it be at the taxidermist?

Thomas saw a sign that said "Clean Dirt Wanted" and wondered isn't it called dirt for a reason?

We love going on vacation and getting to know new places, so it is fun to watch the scenery pass and the places we see...we have many more to check out on our Texas trip!
