Our Fathers Day

Sunday, June 14

We had to move our Fathers Day celebration up a week, because Thomas and I are going on a vacation during the real Fathers Day. So, I took the boys shopping and let them pick out something that they wanted to get Thomas. When asked the boys named things like a fire truck, Iron Man, a car, and so on. So, I thought about and told the boys to pick out something you can play with daddy.

Tyler picked out a water balloon game, but when we went out to play with it didn't want to play with us. "I will stay up on the porch and just watch," stated Tyler. After a yummy breakfast of biscuits, sausage and peppered gravy we went out to play with the water balloon game.Tanner really enjoyed playing with us. He thought it was funny when we all go splashed.Thomas and I ganged up on Tanner and got him good!Tanner picked out a game to play with daddy, Don't Spill the Beans.
After awhile game time was over and the boys and Tapanga horsed around with daddy for a little.I think all in all Thomas had a good Fathers Day and enjoyed himself and the family time we spent together. We love you Daddy!

T-ball Game 7

Saturday, June 13
It has finally come...the boys last t-ball game. There is a little sadness on my part, another first gone, but I know that this is part of life. The boys have gotten to the point that the novelty has worn off.

Tanner didn't want to play t-ball, after going to the rodeo last night he wanted to go back to the "horsey show" and take his daddy. This is my baseball playing cowboy!
As Tanner was running the bases he decided to play with the dirt for a few minutes. Tyler is ready.
Tyler tagged the runny...good job Ty Ty.Tanner getting ready to hit the ball.Tanner happy to be on first. A final game treat...Rainbow Snow Cones!

Our first baseball season is done! I know there will be more to come and who knows this adventure may take the boys places they could only dream about!

Funny - Tapanga

Tapanga was pushing her baby around in her little toy shopping cart the other day. She nicely placed baby in the cart, covered her in her favorite pink blanket, and pushed around the playroom. The next thing I see, Tapanga picks baby up, looks her in the face (nose to nose) and says "Baby you push!" She then tosses baby down behind the cart and proceeds to attempt to climb into the cart herself!

Oh, the cute things they do!

Early Math Skills

This afternoon Tanner was playing with two dice and said, "Mommy what is one plus one plus two?"
I don't know where this came from, but me being a math teacher took the opportunity to use this as a teaching moment. Using my fingers, I show both index fingers and say how many.
Tanner counts, "one,two."
Ok, we are doing pretty good. Then I hold up, two fingers on each hand and say, "ok, now we have two plus two, how many do we have?"
Tanner, "one, two, one two."
Me laughing...he's right!

The Rodeo

Friday, June 12
I had seen signs posted around town about the annual Kiwanis rodeo. Tanner loves horses and thought it would be fun to go to the rodeo. The gates opened at 6 and from 6 to 8 were kids activities, so I really wanted to be there around 6 so the kids could participate before the rodeo started.

When we walked in the first thing we saw was this pen of cows.
The boys said "Hi" to the rodeo queen. One of the activities for the kids was pony rides so all the kids got to ride the ponies. Tanner loved it so much he rode twice.

Tapanga is so happy, she doesn't know what to do...sit up in the saddle, pet the horse, look around...

Tapanga also LOVED the petting area and feeding the donkey...I love the expression on her face.
Thomas wasn't able to attend because of a softball game, here are the kids and I in front of the bull pen.

The kids got into the wagon to see what it would be like to steer the horses.

Tanner wanted to pet the big horses.

Another of the kid activities was a hay scramble. The had a tarp with a small pile of hay on it and in the hay were coins, all the kids 5 and under hunted through the pile of hay for coins. Tanner and Tyler both came up with a quarter!

Even though Thomas couldn't attend, Grammie and Grandpa and Grandma and Papa came along to our first rodeo experience!
I think Grandpa enjoyed shopping at the little shop and bought the "boys" some lasso to play with!

When the rodeo actually started the kids loved it! They were excited to see all the horses and fun!

Thanks Grandpa for the cowboy/cowgirl hats! We have some mighty cute cow folks!

Coloring Contest

A local family magazine, The Clarksville Family, offers a coloring contest every other month for the kids. If selected a winner you get prizes from Chick Fil A. In May, I got the magazine and saw the contest. I gave Tanner the picture to color and he did, we mailed it off. In June the winners were announced and Tanner won in his age group!

Pee Pee Potty

Sunday, June 7

My little girl went pee pee on the potty! Just on a lark, I was changing Tapangas diaper and decided to show her the potty and she went! Not only did she go that time, but she went 3 other times...well sort of...she missed the potty the twice and peed on the floor in front of the potty, but come on she is using the potty! My baby is not even 2!

She seemed so pleased with herself! Good job Panga!

T-ball Game 6

Saturday, June 6

Tanner got to be the "pitcher" for this game. The boys have gotten to the point where they are batting a little better, overall playing a little better. They are not really falling all over each other or fighting as much for the ball. I didn't take very many pictures this game.Notice, the attention of the red team members...Tanner on the pitchers mound is ready...Tyler between first and second is busy with something else...and whomever between second and third is also not interested!Tyler hitting

Nice swing Tanner!

Fishing Rodeo

Saturday, June 6
I had seen this article in the paper about a fishing rodeo for kids at the fairgrounds on Saturday and thought it would be something fun for the kids to go to. Supposedly Saturday was a free fishing day for all kids, meaning you didn't have to have a permit. So, I asked Grandpa if he would be interested in taking the boys. This was a sort of contest, prizes were awarded to the boys and girls who had the biggest and smallest fish and most total weight, but throughout the event they would also be giving away door prizes and such.

Anyway, I convinced Grandpa to go and even though we had a late night Friday, we got up early to go fishing.
Grandpa and the boys getting ready.

When we got to the rodeo we had to get in line because there were a lot of people getting ready to fish. After signing in we had to get our worms on the hooks. Tanner getting his worm.Tyler getting a worm.We are fishing...can you see all the people around the pond?First fish! Caught by Tyler. Daddy and Grandpa didn't really know what to do with the fish, luckily this guy came along and offered some assistance. Notice Thomas holding the fish, the fish started moving on the line and the hook broke so the fish started flopping back towards the water. I start yelling, "Don't let the fish get away!" Thomas reached down and grabbed it with his bare hands!Ready to catch some more.In the middle of the competition everyone was told to to bring in their lines, that every year Grandpas hosts a competition, on Go toss the lines in and the first boy to catch a fish needs to yell real loud and they would win a $50 gift certificate to Grandpas. Thomas cast the line in and immediately something started tugging!

Here is our $50 fish! Tanner caught it!Grandpa and Tapanga watching the action.Tapanga decided she wanted to play with the dirt...what she didn't realize was that there were worms in it! Eeewwww!Tanner caught another fish...fish #3!Daddy the boys and their catches!Grandpa helped out too! Grandpa and the boys and the catches!Time to weigh in...3.7 pounds of fish for the Bowers boys!Afterwards we enjoyed some free snacks...hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones!

I am really glad we participated it was a lot of fun! It made it really nice that we caught a few fish, the people that put on this competition loaded the pond with fish and it made it really enjoyable. The kids had a great time and so did Grandpa and Daddy!
