Fishing Rodeo

Saturday, June 6
I had seen this article in the paper about a fishing rodeo for kids at the fairgrounds on Saturday and thought it would be something fun for the kids to go to. Supposedly Saturday was a free fishing day for all kids, meaning you didn't have to have a permit. So, I asked Grandpa if he would be interested in taking the boys. This was a sort of contest, prizes were awarded to the boys and girls who had the biggest and smallest fish and most total weight, but throughout the event they would also be giving away door prizes and such.

Anyway, I convinced Grandpa to go and even though we had a late night Friday, we got up early to go fishing.
Grandpa and the boys getting ready.

When we got to the rodeo we had to get in line because there were a lot of people getting ready to fish. After signing in we had to get our worms on the hooks. Tanner getting his worm.Tyler getting a worm.We are fishing...can you see all the people around the pond?First fish! Caught by Tyler. Daddy and Grandpa didn't really know what to do with the fish, luckily this guy came along and offered some assistance. Notice Thomas holding the fish, the fish started moving on the line and the hook broke so the fish started flopping back towards the water. I start yelling, "Don't let the fish get away!" Thomas reached down and grabbed it with his bare hands!Ready to catch some more.In the middle of the competition everyone was told to to bring in their lines, that every year Grandpas hosts a competition, on Go toss the lines in and the first boy to catch a fish needs to yell real loud and they would win a $50 gift certificate to Grandpas. Thomas cast the line in and immediately something started tugging!

Here is our $50 fish! Tanner caught it!Grandpa and Tapanga watching the action.Tapanga decided she wanted to play with the dirt...what she didn't realize was that there were worms in it! Eeewwww!Tanner caught another fish...fish #3!Daddy the boys and their catches!Grandpa helped out too! Grandpa and the boys and the catches!Time to weigh in...3.7 pounds of fish for the Bowers boys!Afterwards we enjoyed some free snacks...hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones!

I am really glad we participated it was a lot of fun! It made it really nice that we caught a few fish, the people that put on this competition loaded the pond with fish and it made it really enjoyable. The kids had a great time and so did Grandpa and Daddy!
